The hotel Hébert, street la Froidière in Ornans, where Gustave Courbet was born, is located on the banks of the Loue, the river that runs through the village, and meanders between two rows of houses.

The living room all woodwork period, windows overlooking the Loue. On the easel, the self-portrait of Courbetin Saint Pelagie (1871) and behind the sofa a Gustave Courbet carved by Louis Joseph Lerboeuf in 1861. On the sofa and carpet of the living room, two dogs: a fox terrier and a pointing griffon, hunting dog.

One of the rooms on the 1st floor, overlooking the Loue. In the back ground, through the window, the Roche du Mont, which served as a background for many works of Gustave Courbet.

In this workshop where he stored his paintings and his brushes, Gustave Courbet realized, in 1864, this painting hung on the left wall, "Rock rotten", which represents a landscape of the region of Salins. The window did not exist at the time. The artist placed in this room all the objects and canvases that were close to his heart. On the right wall a portrait of his paternal grandfather by Oudot and, on the ground, that of Lydie Joliclerc, the wife of the mayor of Pontarlier who helped him to smuggle the border to Switzerland when he decided to to exile following the case of the Vendome column. In the middle on a tripod, a bust of himself made by an admirer, G. Laethien; on his desk, one of the painter's palettes and a country easel probably not belonged to him. On the right, the curious articulated manikin that served him to sketch his huge painting "The Burial at Ornans". On the small table, "the beach of Trouville", painted by Courbet in 1865.

The large dining room with its fireplace is reminiscent of the décor chosen for "L'après dinée à Ornans".
