Detained Women hide their face in a cell of the Walaayat Women Jail in Kabul. 26 women are detained in basic conditions, waiting for a trial or even only an eventual agreement reached in between the detained and their family. Mainly accused of adulterous and prostitution, the women may have more hope for their future since the Taliban are no longer ruling the country . Therefore, she is going to Kabul's Hospital by plane, accompanied by one of her son, with the hope to get a better diagnose and recieve the proper treatment. September 2004. -

Zamzana, 7, escorted her sister Housour, 24. As she was working for the local United Nation, going to the villages around Jalalabad to deliver election cards to women, a month before the first Democratic Afghan Presidential Elections ever. One morning, as they were traveling with some 14 women workers to deliver the cards, a bomb blast in their minibus. The attack was claimed by Taliban, three of them died, Housour died but the little Zamzana survived. Her left leg had to be amputated, she lost three fingers of her left hand. September 2004 -

Alexandra arrived in Afghanistan during the American invasion in early 2001. She returned several times afterwards and became interested in the condition of women, which has gradually improved.
With the recent takeover of the country by the Taliban, many are now wondering what will happen to them.
