Pierre Boulat
Traditional wedding in the Berry
In 1946 Pierre Boulat shot a story for the French magazine “Saturday night” on a traditional wedding in Berry. A rustic wedding as one does not do anymore, with its demosielles of honor, its prom, its tears and myths.
50 years latern during the opening of one of hisphoto exhibtions in a gallery on rue de Seine in Paris, a woman told him that she was among the wedding guests and could recognize herself on one of the pictures. “She told me that there was always a doubt about the paternity of a beautiful baby born of one of the bridesmaids. An ephemeral and untraceable father, the idea of an involuntary conception vaguely crossed my mind. I must say that the night of the wedding was rather confused, with incantations smothered with love from haystacks.
The question remained unanswered, the pretty septuagenarian evaporated into the reflection of the glass of my photos. “
